Gamesalad – Forest scene

So this is the very first screen of the app.  Karens voice and for every single page of the app is set to play.  If the user wishes to play the audio again, they simply touch the text area and the scene will reset.

When this scene starts Oisin’s eyes are set to blink after one second.  After this then the user can tap his eyes and he will blink.  His nose and ears are also interactive.

The image sequence bellow that you can see of the eye blink was created with 3 images (illustrator).

Bellow is the second page.  The princess on the horse bounces in from the left and stops at the position in the screenshot bellow. On this scene the trees play a scale with each one you tap the scale rises.  The black hole in the tree is where the owl eyes appear.  Some of the mushrooms are interactive.

So this is the third screen.  There is three auto playing animations here, her pony tale which waves, the crown which rises and wobbles and the spirals on her dress which appear.  The user can also play these through interaction.  Some audio interactions will be added to the background.

This is the fourth screen.  This is a camera zoom into the princess face.  It begins further out.  Her head tilts down.

The scene then auto changes to this because the above image was an animation I made in after effects.  So in order to make them interactive I had to then add them in separately.

Gamesalad – Testing app on device

Following my problems with the Gamesalad viewer I decided to try the APK method.  I did this by hitting publish button on the gamesalad creator.

Firstly because Im not paying for gamesalad I cant publish the app for android meaning I cant test the app on android so I need to get an iPad somehow.

This is the general form that has to be filled in. Im not too sure what to do with the aspect ratio but for now I choose the letterbox method.  I also now know that I need to create a loading page for my app and the dimensions.

Creating the Intro animation -Video password is FYP –

Firstly I went back to the Island blender file and set up the scene, testing different ways to zoom into the island.  This is how the scene looks in blender.

Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 18.28.56

Once this was done I had to render the animation which consisted of 180 frames.  Now I realised the other day that my gamesalad file with only 3 scenes out of 33 in it was already 178mb. The reason for this is that blender doesn’t compress the files very small. So Dan mentioned in last weeks meeting about compressing them again in photoshop.  So this was the task at hand; export 180 images again in photoshop.  As you can see from the image below which isnt even 180 images the daunting task I now had.

So you can view my pain:

As you can see from this image exporting them through photoshop again compresses them significantly going from 96KB to 30KB.

This is how the animation looks in blender:

I am now brining these into gamesalad for the main screen. These 180 images have brought my file up to 181.5mb which is very good considering the amount I just added as opposed to the 3 I previously added (they need to be replaced to bring file size back down).

I have set this scene up so when the play button is pressed and released the button will disappear and the animation will play.

I now need to add in the menu options at the end of the animation.

Learning Gamesalad

Before I go on any further in the development of my app in Gamesalad I figured it would be best that I look at tutorials, make them myself and see what Gamesalad is capable of.  The first time I did this over the easter nothing worked for me.

I started looking at tutorials, multiple tutorials didn’t work.  However I found a few videos and one specific channel that has really good tutorials that are working.

Once I find all that I can find and make work I know what interactivity’s I can do in Gamesalad and what I need to create animations of in blender/after effects.

This is the youtube channel I found:

He also has a website with loads of ‘freebies’ which I can download and look at how they were made possible.  My general feeling at this point is relief.  I finally feel like I can make this app.

Giants castle courtyard/fight scene

I like the tunnel leading away idea.  This could be a nice included into the background perhaps.

I like the stalactites and stalagmites within this image along with the giant pillars.

I like the light shining through the gap in the roof.  I’d like to create something like this if I have time. 6198b9c611281dd3c943e44b4c51bddeI like the way there is loads of depth created with many rocks everywhere in different shades of blue.
